The NWA Needs You on Saturday, September 10th for WeatherReady Fest!
The National Weather Association’s 41st Annual Meeting will kick off with a public outreach event on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Nauticas Science Center in Downtown Norfolk. All WeatherFest activities will be free and open to the public. Guests will also receive reduced museum admission on September 10th.

WeatherFest Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
WeatherFest Set Up Begins at 8:00 a.m.
Scout Event: 7:30 a.m. – 12 noon
Scout Registration Begins at 7:00 a.m.
We need as many members as possible to arrive on Friday night to be a part of this huge event! We expect over 5,000 local residents to attend the WeatherFest from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and we will be hosting 200 Boy and Girl Scouts who will earn their WeatherReady Nation Patch between 7:30 a.m. and noon. There will be games, activities, exhibits, speakers, films, book signings balloon releases and large equipment displays.
COST: Free!
There is no cost for NWA Individual or Corporate Members to participate in WeatherFest. One skirted table will be provided if you are exhibiting or providing a game/activity. A parking space will be provided if you are bringing a large vehicle. Extra tables cost $20 each. Electrical services cost $25. Specify your needs on the online registration form.

INDOOR/OUTDOOR EVENT – Most of the exhibit space is outdoors, but undercover. Depending on the weather, which is generally nice in Norfolk in September (as long as there isn’t a hurricane!), most exhibits & activities will be outdoors. Indoor space is limited.
WHAT CAN I DO?
Every NWA member has a role! Pick the one that best suits you.
You can serve as a Volunteer, helping set up, doing registration, assisting visitors and helping breakdown the event. You will get a beautiful NWA WeatherFest polo shirt. Sign up here to be a Volunteer!
You can be an Exhibitor at a table or booth or presenting a piece of large equipment (Doppler radar, chase vehicle, etc.); signing books or providing autographs; delivering educational, preparedness or safety information; or selling a product such as a device or app.
You can man an Activity, setting up an experiment, game, teaching activity or stage show. Sign up here to handle a weather activity or game.
You can be a Speaker, presenting a general interest topic on weather or the atmosphere. Email Bill Murray if you are interested in being a speaker.
You can serve in a leadership role, as a Team Leader, overseeing things like Social Media for the event. Email Bill Murray if you are interested in leading a team.
Your organization can be a Sponsor, helping underwrite the expenses for the exciting event in return for specific targeted exposure to the expected audience of over 5,000 people!
Cat 5: Full title sponsor with naming rights inclusion on all printed materials and banners, frequent recognition from the stage, Honorary emcee role and a prime position booth. $10,000

Hosting WeatherFest in Norfolk on Saturday, September 10th
Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 9 – 2: with lots of free activities, games, exhibits and book signings for families. Reduced price museum admission also available.
(Norfolk, VA)— Join the National Weather Association for its exciting annual WeatherFest at the Nauticas Science Center on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Weather enthusiasts of all ages are invited for a rare chance to meet meteorologists from all over the country. Learn about the science of meteorology and meet weather personalities from The Weather Channel and all of the local Hampton Roads television stations and many others.
Families will love the educational and fun weather games and activities. Adults will love the preparedness and safety information. Everyone will be able to meet their favorite weather-related authors. Exhibitors will be displaying their weather related products, including weather stations and apps.
The Weather Dude, Nick Walker from The Weather Channel, will be performing his kids’ preparedness songs on stage.
There will be an exciting slate of speakers, talking about everything from hurricanes and tropical weather to tornadoes and severe storms to winter storms. A significant focus will be the impact of coastal flooding on southeastern Virginia.
Several authors will be on hand signing their books, including famous children’s author and Fox News Network weather anchor Janice Dean.
Guests will be able to check out weather equipment on the plaza, including a Doppler radar, a mobile wind profiler and storm chase vehicles. They will also have an opportunity to get their NOAA weather radios programmed.
A Weather Ready Nation preparedness badge event will be held for Boy and Girl Scouts.
All WeatherFest activities will be free and open to the public. Guests also receive reduced museum admission on September 10th.
Over 5,000 adults and children are expected to attend.
