Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0641 PM CST Mon Jan 23 2017 Valid 240100Z - 241200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... A few thunderstorms will persist this evening, mainly over California into western Arizona, but overall trend should be for activity to decrease. ...California through western Arizona... Steep lapse rates associated with cold air aloft (-25 to -30C at 500mb) within a large upper low circulation has contributed to weak instability in this region. Forcing for ascent accompanying a series of vorticity maxima embedded within the upper low will continue to promote scattered showers and a few thunderstorms this evening. Given presence of steep lapse rates and cold air aloft, some small hail remains possible, but overall trend should be for activity to decrease with onset of nocturnal cooling. ..Dial.. 01/24/2017Read more
