Mesoscale Discussion 0102
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1106 PM CST Sat Jan 21 2017
Areas affected...parts of southern Georgia
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 220506Z - 220600Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Local severe risk may spread across southern Georgia
during the next few hours. However, necessity for watch issuance
remains uncertain.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar shows vigorous storms moving across
southwest Georgia at this time, into an increasingly stable
low-level airmass in the wake of the earlier squall line. Though
higher theta-e boundary-layer air is spreading north across the
Florida Panhandle, the northward advance will likely be hindered to
some degree by persistent convection farther north, reinforcing
low-level stability.
At this time, it appears that the primary risk across much of GA may
be hail over the next few hours. Given weaker instability with
northeastward extent, additional watch issuance may not be needed.
