Mesoscale Discussion 0042 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0541 AM CST Sat Jan 14 2017 Areas affected...far southwestern MO into northeastern OK and parts of central OK Concerning...Freezing rain Valid 141141Z - 141445Z SUMMARY...A corridor of heavier rates of freezing rain (0.05-0.20 inch per 3 hours) is forecast from 1145-1445 UTC from the I-35 corridor north of OKC northeastward towards the Joplin, MO area. DISCUSSION...Radar mosaic during the early morning has shown an increase in convective shower coverage across central OK northeastward into northwestern AR and southwestern MO. Surface analysis places the freezing line over south-central OK northeastward to near the OK/AR/MO tri-state region. North of this line, freezing rain will occur. Sporadic occurrences of lightning have been noted within the discussion area from near Stillwater northeastward to the KS/MO/OK border region. Given the weak elevated buoyancy per 12 UTC area raobs, precipitation rates will likely continue to be augmented for the next several hours as convective showers and a few thunderstorms train east-northeastward during the early morning. Rates in the range of 0.05-0.20 inch per 3 hours are expected. ..Smith.. 01/14/2017 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... ATTN...WFO...SGF...TSA...OUN...
