The sixth grade science teachers at Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia kicked off their second annual weather balloon launch yesterday with a special training session for 395 Launch Weather Officers.
Today, they will produce their own launch forecasts using a set of meteorological parameters that are tied to factors that could affect the launch and flight.
Last year’s launch was a huge success, the brainchild of Teacher Diane McAliley, attaining an altitude of 106,693, with video and data over the complete flight. The payload was miraculously recovered in a tree in Randolph County in East Alabama.
