A Quick Check On Our Weather Situation At Midday

Currently across Central Alabama at the midday hour, we have some active weather in the area. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is currently in effect for portions of Jefferson, Blount, and St. Clair counties until 12:30PM, for a storm that is possible of producing wind gusts up to 60 MPH and quarter-size hail. It is moving east at 25 MPH. All of the rest of the showers and storms are below severe limits.

We have a large mass of rain and storms down to our south-southwest moving out of Louisiana and moving into the southern portions of Mississippi and Alabama. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is currently in effect for several counties until 4PM CDT. There was a tornado that touched down in Baton Rouge earlier today, but we do not have any reports of damage or injuries as of yet.

More storms are expected to develop across the area later today as an upper trough approaches. The main threat from these storms will be strong, gusty winds and some small hail, but the wind fields will be light and there is no significant tornado threat. Timing for the strong to marginally severe storms will be from now until midnight tonight.
