...DISCUSSION...
A fairly broad and deep mid-level closed low digging into the Great
Basin by late this weekend probably will begin to accelerate
northeastward by early next week, in advance of building mid/upper
ridging. As this feature emerges from the Intermountain West, the
medium range guidance suggests that it will maintain considerable
strength across the northern Plains, before continuing northeastward
and weakening, near/north of the central Canadian/U.S border area by
the middle of next week. Thereafter, short wave developments become
more unclear through the remainder of the work week, but moderate to
strong potential instability may develop daily across a considerable
portion of the interior United States. At this point, severe weather
potential appears most probable (and predictable) in association
with forcing downstream of the remnant closed low, across parts of
the northern high Plains into the northern Plains Red River Valley
area this coming Monday and Tuesday.
