Heavy rainfall and flooding possible across northwest Alabama tonight and on Thursday
The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued an Areal Flood Watch for a portion of northwest Alabama, including the counties of Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale from this evening through Thursday evening at 7:00 PM.
An approaching cold front, and multiple waves of showers and thunderstorms preceding and accompanying the front, some with locally heavy rainfall will impact northwest Alabama beginning this evening and continuing during Thursday. Rainfall totals across northwest Alabama into Thursday evening will range from 1 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.
Runoff from excessive amounts of rainfall will result in incidents of flooding and flash flooding, especially in low lying areas and on some roadways. Rises in area river and stream levels is also likely late this week.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
