Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 272

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of 
  Northeastern Minnesota
  Northwestern Wisconsin
  Lake Superior

* Effective this Thursday morning from 1255 AM until 700 AM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
  Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...An organized complex of thunderstorms will pose primarily
a damaging-wind hazard as it moves southeastward across the watch
area.  Activity should encounter substantially more stable air and
become less-organized over northern WI and western Lake Superior.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles either side of a line from 50 miles north of Brainerd
MN to 15 miles southeast of Kennedy WI. For a complete depiction of

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...This severe thunderstorm watch replaces
tornado watch number 271. Watch number 271 will not be in effect
after 1255 AM CDT. 

AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A
few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 550. Mean storm motion vector
29035.
