Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 336

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of 
  South central and southeast South Dakota

* Effective this Monday night and Tuesday morning from 1045 PM
  until 500 AM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2
    inches in diameter possible
  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

SUMMARY...A line of storms has shown signs of intensification as it
approaches the edge of earlier Severe Thunderstorm Watch 334.  The
downstream environment will support a continuation of these storms,
as well as the development of additional storms into southeast South
Dakota overnight.  Damaging winds will be the main threat with the
line of storms, while large hail will remain possible with the
persistent supercell on the south end of the line, and with the
developing storms farther east into southeast South Dakota.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 45
statute miles north and south of a line from 95 miles west of
Chamberlain SD to 40 miles east southeast of Mitchell SD. For a

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...This severe thunderstorm watch replaces
severe thunderstorm watch number 334. Watch number 334 will not
be in effect after 1045 PM CDT. 

AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A
few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 550. Mean storm motion vector
29035.
