NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...central and eastern South Dakota...southwest
Minnesota

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 461...

Valid 280430Z - 280630Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 461
continues.

SUMMARY...Dangerous wind gusts in excess of 80 mph are possible in
association with an MCS taking shape over central South Dakota.

DISCUSSION...Storms are rapidly evolving into a focused MCS over
central SD, now approaching the Pierre area. Several gusts over 80
mph have been measured recently, and this threat is likely to
continue spreading east as the storms move into an unstable
environment. Strong deep-layer shear and a southwesterly low-level
jet tonight will aid MCS longevity, with damaging winds expected to
persist across the state of SD and eventually southwest MN.
