Week ahead: Mild & damp - Wind and rain, Jan 24 - 08:56

Unsettled with cloud and rain, windy and mild too A more unsettled spell of weather to come during this week. The jet stream bringing areas of low pressure, cloud and periods of rain. Winds will be to gale force on several days. Cooler weather breaking through Scotland from time to time with the risk of some wintry showers over hills here.

For the weather for the next few days click here Wednesday 27/1/16 Low pressure is again in charge of the weather through Wednesday, and so after a wet and windy night for many Wednesday morning is likely to be rather cloudy and wet. Rain could be heavy at times. Becoming drier and brighter in Ireland and western Scotland, but with some heavy showers, turning increasingly wintry on the hills. Staying cloudy and damp over most of southern England and much of Wales in the afternoon, although things should slowly improve from the north and west. High temperatures at 7 to 11�°C, Feeling cooler as the brighter weather arrives.

Thursday 28/1/16 A weak ridge of higher pressure across more southern parts of the country on Thursday, with lower pressure remaining towards the north. There will be plenty of cloud around to start Thursday morning with some drizzle over western coast and hills. The most persistent of this in northern and western Scotland as well as Western Ireland and Northwest England. Brighter spells developing in more eastern and southern areas. Remaining windy across much of Scotland, northern England and Ireland. Turning windy towards evening with further rain into Ireland and western Scotland later. A fresher day with temperatures at 6 to 9�°C.

Friday 29/1/16 Fronts tracking through Northern Ireland and Scotland on Friday bringing some heavy periods of rain to more western areas. It is also likely to be wet across northern England. Windy across much of the northern half of the country with those winds to gale force over western coast and hills. Drier across north-east England and eastern Scotland, as well as most of central and southern England together with eastern Wales. Rather a lot of cloud around but the chance of some bright spells too. Western coast of Wales and Southwest England may see a few outbreaks of drizzle. Temperatures at 6�°C in northern Scotland and 11�°C in southern England.

Saturday 30/1/16 Little changes into Saturday with fronts again bringing rain too much of northern England and Wales as well as Ireland. Chilly in Scotland with some wintry showers here. Drier across eastern, central and southern England although with plenty of cloud and just a few bright spells. A mild day with tops of 7 to 12�°C. Sunday 31/1/16 More rain is expected across Ireland and Scotland on Sunday, This is being heavy at times. Dryer across England and Wales with some outbreaks of rain or drizzle affecting western case and hills. Rather windy for all and mild with temperatures at 8 to 12�°C. Monday 1/2/16 Low pressure north of Scotland on Monday. Wet and windy over much fo Scotland and Ireland, heavy periods of rain in the west. Drizzle and low cloud affects many western coasts of hills, drier to the east and south. Tops at 9 to 13C.
