Week ahead: Varied temperatures - Cooler Saturday, Jan 26 - 09:49

Frequent rain, some snow Temperatures will fluctuate between mild and cool over the next few days, with occasional snowfalls across northern Britain, mainly over the hills. Unsettled in the north & west. Smaller amounts of rain in the south & east, and mostly mild. For the weather for the next few days click here

Friday 29/01/16 A windy day for all as low pressure passes to the north of Scotland. Risk of gales across northern Britain. Persistent rain for western Scotland, also north-west England & Wales. Rain on and off too for Ireland, heaviest in west. Generally dry elsewhere across eastern, central & southern Britain, perhaps some rain extending into the Midlands later. A lot of cloud, best chance for some sun in the east. Highs 8C in north, to 12C south.

Saturday 30/01/16 Fronts move south-east across the country. Temperatures likely to fall through the day. A belt of rain may persist across southern England for several hours. Brighter skies follow. A cold and showery day across northern Britain, giving frequent snow or hail across Highland Scotland, particularly in west. Risk of wintry showers too for north-west England & Northern Ireland. Blustery westerly winds. Highs 6C north, to 10C south.

Sunday 31/01/16 A warm front advances from the south-west, with milder air returning. Rain spreads north & eastwards, becoming persistent for a few hours, and may fall as snow over Scottish hills. Brisk winds. Overcast skies for many, turning murky in the west. Staying chilly in the north-east, where temperatures may struggle at 5C, but rising toward 12C in the south-west.

Monday 01/02/16 Low pressure remains north of Britain. Cool westerly winds bring a changeable and showery outlook to the north & west. Pulses of rain, sleet, and snow on the hills likely becoming widespread across northern Scotland. Scattered showers elsewhere, but mainly dry across south-eastern Britain, and fairly mild. Highs 6 to 11C. Tuesday 02/02/16 A west to north-westerly pattern may bring cooler air back southwards across the country. Areas of showery rain, may merge for a few hours. Increasing risk sleet or snow in the north. Staying mild in the south. Highs 5 to 10C. Wednesday 03/02/16 Risk of a cooler day for all, but some uncertainty. Unsettled toward the north & west, with wintry showers. Drier and brighter toward the south & east. Highs 4 to 9C.
