Week ahead: Briefly milder - Chilly theme continuing, Feb 16 - 11:38

Briefly milder, but chilly theme continues Milder weather affecting some this weekend, but the overall theme for rather chilly conditions does persist. Some rain, sleet and snow on Wednesday, bringing a cold and damp day, this drifting into southeast England for Thursday. Mixed through the weekend with rain for most, and then chillier next week with a threat of wintry showers in Scotland, northern England and Ireland.

For the weather for the next few days click here Friday 19/2/16 Brighter across much of England, with some sunshine in the east. Fronts arriving from the Atlantic into the west & north of Britain and Ireland. Rain on and off for Scotland, with snow over the mountains. Outbreaks of rain develop for Wales & north-west England through the day, and some showery bursts may spread to the Midlands by evening. Freshening west to south-westerly winds. Slightly milder, highs 5 to 8C.

Saturday 20/2/16 Further fronts extend across northern areas, bringing a risk of persistent rain to southern Scotland and northern England. Wintry showers in central and northern Scotland. Drier toward the east and south of the UK with drizzle on coasts. Brisk west to south-westerly winds. Largely cloudy. Much milder temperatures in the south, widely reaching 10 to 12C but staying cool in Scotland at 3 to 7C.

Sunday 21/2/16 Low pressure passes to the north of Scotland on Sunday. A cold front clears south taking showery outbreaks of rain with it. Following will be cooler conditions with a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers will be wintry and frequent in Scotland, but less through England, Wales and Ireland. Highs ata a cooler 4 to 10C.

Monday 22/2/16 A chilly day on Monday. A weak ridge of high pressure builds to the west, with the northwest flow persisting. Some wintry showers in Scotland and possibly across eastern England. Tending to be drier to the west with some brighter spells. Tops at 4 to 6C. Tuesday 23/2/16 Another chilly day with a front straggling west to east across the country bringing clod and some outbreaks of rain. Brighter with wintry showers in Scotland, tending to be drier in southern England. Highs at 2 to 5C. Wednesday 24/2/16 Chilly again. Fronts will be bringing some rain through Ireland and the west of the UK, but it may stay drier and brighter to the east Highs at 3 to 6C.
