Week ahead: Often cool - Some rain developing, Feb 25 - 09:13

Mixed conditions next week A cold easterly wind this weekend, but most places will stay dry apart from isolated snow flurries in the east. Early next week sees fronts move in from the west, bringing rain and briefly milder temperatures. From midweek, cool and showery conditions are expected. Sunday 28/02/16 High pressure over northern Britain and low pressure over southern Europe maintains a chilly east to north-easterly wind across Britain, strongest over southern regions, and feeling distinctly cold near to North Sea coasts. A few bands of wintry showers may drift across eastern counties, but most places should stay dry. Best sunshine toward the west. A frosty start, particularly in the north. Daytime highs 5 to 8C.

Monday 29/02/16 Frost may be more widespread across the south into Monday morning, perhaps some local fog patches in low lying central & southern regions. Fronts encroach into the west & north-west, bringing a freshening westerly wind, and increasing threat of rain, perhaps snow over the hills for a time. Lighter winds in the south, and some sunshine, but clouds likely to build. Eastern Britain likely to stay dry all day. Highs 5 to 8C.

Tuesday 01/03/16 Low pressure to the north and fronts passing eastwards across the country, will bring blustery winds, and rain for several hours, heaviest in western regions. This system should clear during the day, followed by brighter skies and scattered showers from the north-west. Temperatures may briefly rise to 11 or 12C in the south, although nearer 7C in the north.

Wednesday 02/03/16 A cool north-westerly is expected. Showers, these most frequent in the north-west of Britain & Ireland, but some bursts of rain may extend to the Midlands through the day. Snow over the Scottish mountains. Sunny spells toward the south & east. Feeling cool, highs 6 to 9C. Thursday 04/03/16 A cluster of wintry showers may advance south overnight into Thursday. Remaining cool, with north-westerly winds bringing areas of showers during the day. Temperatures 6 to 8C for many, but may rise to 10C in the south-west. Friday 05/03/16 Milder conditions may develop as pressure builds from the south-west. Risk of fronts bringing rain to the north & north-west, whilst the south & east should be drier and brighter. Highs 7 to 11C.
