Frosts This week will be mostly an unsettled one with low pressure dominating Britain. Temperatures will be around normal but with a brisk north east wind, it will feel colder. Frosts and icy patches are likely overnight. Towards the end of the week we may see milder conditions coming in from the west but confidence in this is low at present. For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 16/02/16 Strong south west winds develop in the north with gusts to 75 mph in the north of Scotland. A bit milder for most. Rain comes in across western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Freezing fog patches clear by afternoon otherwise a dry day to come with sunnier spells, best in the east. Windy into the night with rain for Scotland, northern England, Wales and the south west. This may give some snow to the hills. Expect highs of 5 to 7C.
Wednesday 17/02/16 Cool and breezy as that area of rain, with sleet and snow over the hills pushes east across England and Wales. This clears from the west late in the day leaving sunnier spells and scattered showers in the north and west, wintry over Scotland. Clear and frosty by night with icy patches. Expect maximum temperatures of 4 to 8C.
Thursday 18/02/16 Not as cold as strong south west winds develop across the north. Largely dry and sunny for the morning. Cloud and rain spreads in across western parts of Britain during the afternoon which moves east into most areas for the evening and night. Expect maximum temperatures of 4 to 8C.
Friday 19/02/16 Milder conditions may push in across much of the country from the west. A misty, murky day with spells of rain and drizzle, somewhat drier across eastern Scotland and east of the Pennines. It stays damp into the night with rain, this heavier across the north and the west. There is very low confidence in the arrival of milder weather. Expect maximum temperatures of 9 to 12C. Saturday 20/02/16 It appears mild and windy with a risk of gales across northern Britain by evening with severe gales possible across Scotland, but again there is much uncertainty on the milder conditions. A cloudy day with sporadic outbreaks of rain and drizzle, this mostly across the north. Expect maximum temperatures of 8 to 12C Sunday 21/02/16 Breezy a number of showers to come around western areas. Central and eastern areas look chiefly dry with the best of the sunshine. Expect maximum temperatures of 8 to 12C.
