European Summary: Very warm south-east - Some heavy rain central Europe, Apr 15 - 09:45

Sunshine across the Mediterranean Friday Persistent, often heavy rain affects Portugal and north-west Spain as fronts move in off the Atlantic. The south & south-east of Spain will be dry and warm with sunshine, highs 23C. Fine and warm weather extends across the Mediterranean, with sunshine for Italy, Greece and the Balkans. Temperatures widely 18 to 24C. Northern Europe is relatively mild too, highs 13 to 16C. Areas of rain across central France, moving into the Alps across Switzerland into western Austria. Outbreaks of rain too for northern France and the Low Countries, windy at times. Rain passes east across Germany into western Poland. Areas of showery rain affect Norway and Sweden as low pressure resides across the region. Brighter for the Baltic coasts and Finland. Some thundery rain around the Black Sea, but much of east and south-east Europe stays dry and fairly warm.

Saturday Heavy rain continues to affect central France overnight, advancing east across southern Germany and the Alps into the daytime. Thundery rain persists for Portugal and northern Spain, which will also spread back to south-western France later in the day. Southern Spain escapes mainly dry and warm again. Bright but cool in northern France and Belgium. A cold north-westerly wind brings showers to the Netherlands, Denmark and northern Germany. Low pressure brings cool and unsettled weather to Norway and Sweden, snow over the mountains. South-eastern Europe remains dry under the influence of high pressure. Italy, the Balkans and Greece will see plenty of warm sunshine. Temperatures rising, widely toward 25C inland.
