Week ahead: Snow on hills - Less cold next week, Apr 25 - 12:59

A cold week, a risk of snow and then unsettled but less cold to start next week An unsettled and cold start to the week. There will be showers or longer spells of rain, most around western, northern and eastern coasts and hills. Snow is possible on the hills of Scotland. Next week shows hints of becoming less cold although remaining unsettled with low pressure driving fronts east.

For the weather for the next few days click here Thursday 28/4/16 Low pressure to the east of the country through Thursday bringing a north to northwest flow through most of the UK and Ireland. Showers within the flow will be tracking south, some of them heavy and the most frequent in the east where they will fall as snow over high ground from northeast England northwards. Best of the sunshine to the west and south. Highs at 7 to 10C.

Friday 29/4/16 It stays rather cold on Friday with low pressure to the east. There will be further showers, these tending to move eastwards in bands and perhaps turning heavy at times. Wintry showers over high ground. Sunny spells between the showers. Highs of 7 to 10C.

Saturday 30/4/16 Low pressure to the northwest of Scotland on Saturday. This changes the winds into a slightly milder westerly bringing bands of rain and showers eastwards. A further area of more persistent rain may affect more western areas later. Highs near 8 to 12C.

Sunday 1/5/16 Low pressure again to the northwest of Scotland on Sunday. This may push a front eastwards taking cloud and rain with it. Following will be brighter spells and a few showers. Highs at 9 to 13C.

Bank Holiday Monday 2/5/16 The westerly flow may continue into Monday with low pressure to the northwest of Scotland. Further fronts spread eastwards taking cloud and rain with them. Plenty of cloud for most areas and highs around 9 to 14C. Tuesday 3/5/16 Perhaps improving through southern areas on Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure builds. Staying cloudy to the north with further rain and showers here, windy too. Tops at 8 to 13C.
