MD 0125 Image

Mesoscale Discussion 0125
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0721 PM CST Sun Jan 22 2017

Areas affected...Central and southern Florida

Concerning...Tornado Watch 23...

Valid 230121Z - 230315Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 23 continues.

SUMMARY...Severe/tornado risk continues across central
Florida/Tornado Watch 23, and will gradually spread/expand southward
across the remainder of the Peninsula and Keys over the next several
hours. A new Tornado Watch will eventually be needed.

DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a band of severe storms
extending from Volusia County southwest to the Tampa Bay area, and
more isolated storms ahead of the main band, moving quickly
northeastward. Several of these storms -- both within the line and
ahead of it -- remain supercellular, which should remain the case
over the next several hours given the favorable kinematic and
thermodynamic environment revealed by this evening's RAOBs. While
overall risk has diminished somewhat -- such that the next watch
will likely not require PDS wording, potential for tornadoes, along
with damaging wind and hail risk, will likely continue into the
overnight hours.
