MD 0128 Image

Mesoscale Discussion 0128
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0122 AM CST Mon Jan 23 2017

Areas affected...Southern Florida

Concerning...Tornado Watch 24...

Valid 230722Z - 230845Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 24 continues.

SUMMARY...An isolated severe/tornado risk continues across the
southern extent of WW 24, as a broken band of storms advances
through South Florida during the next 3-4 hours (until 10-11Z).

DISCUSSION...At 0715Z, mosaic radar imagery continued to show a
broken band of discrete storms stretching southwest from Palm Beach
County to southern Collier/northwest Monroe Counties. A few will
continue to evolve into supercells with transient low-level rotation
couplets. Recent couplets include storms along central border area
of Palm Beach/Broward Counties, across eastern Palm Beach County,
southeast Collier County, and moving toward the central coast of
mainland Monroe County. Moderate instability along and south of
these storms combined with strong deep-layer and low-level shear
suggests a tornado threat persists with this activity, as area VWP
data indicated 0-1 km SRH of 350-400 m2/s2.
