Increasingly unsettled and remaining rather cold looking ahead A change in the weather is on the way into early next week as it becomes far more unsettled than of late but remaining rather cold too.

A few bright spells may developing into the afternoon as the fog tends to lift. Becoming windier in western Scotland and western Ireland with heavier bursts of rain and gales arriving here during the afternoon and evening, gales possible later too. Highs at 4C to 9C.
Monday 15/1/18 Low pressure northwest will dominate over Iceland and to the north-west of Scotland on Monday introducing a cold and showery NW'ly air mass. Rain and strong winds push eastwards, this rain perhaps turning to snow ober high ground of Scotland and the hills of northern England for a time, clearing SE England through the afternoon. Brighter, colder and more showery weather then follows to the north and west, snow showers increasingly likely on higher ground later. Highs at 2C to 9C.
Tuesday 16/1/18 Low pressure stays to the northwest of Scotland on Tuesday. A showery and colder westerly flow will be affecting all areas. The wintry showers will be heavy in the north and west and some will be thundery, risk of some snow accumulations on higher ground of Scotland, Ireland and N England in particular. There is a risk of an area of more organised wintry showers passing east through England, Wales and Ireland later. Highs at 2C to 5C, overnight frost and ice.
Wednesday 17/1/18 Low pressure remains north of Scotland on Wednesday with a strong westerly or north-westerly flow affecting all areas. These bring sunny spells and showers, wintry to the north and west with again snow likely on higher ground at times too with some further accumulations. A further area of more organised rain and sleet again passing through Ireland, Wales and southern England later, perhaps turning to snow on the northern edge with gales a risk across S England. Highs near 2C to 6C, overnight frost and ice.
Thursday 18/1/18 Low pressure is still expected to be to the north of Scotland again on Thursday. The westerly or north-westerly flow maintaining sunny spells and showers, heavy in the west and the showers still wintry with hail, sleet and snow on higher ground of SCotland, Ireland and N England. A continued risk of longer spells of rain running eastwards across parts of England and Wales though through the day, snow risk northern edge. Highs at 2C to 6C. Friday 19/18 Overall little change at the moment with low pressure anchored to the north of the British Isles and this maintaining a rather cold west or north-westerly air mass with showery conditions, these often wintry on higher ground in the north and west. Windy for all and remaining cold with overnight frost and ice. Highs 2C to 6C.
