Week ahead: Unsettled & cool - Snow on hills, Mar 26 - 10:08

Unsettled and cool, snow on hills An unsettled week ahead as low pressure takes control of the weather across the UK. Rain and showers wil be featuring in the forecast and it will be turning chillier again too. Sow could fall over the hills of Scotland, northern England and Wales. Indications for the Easter weekend are for the mixed conditions to continue before turning wetter early next week.

For the weather for the next few days click here Maundy Thursday 29/3/18 An area of low pressure to the south of Ierland on Thursday. An occluded front brings rain and cloud to the north of Scotland, this lasting for much of the day. Sunny spells for many in the morning but some showers soon developing, especially in England, Wales and southern Ireland. These become heavier and thundery into the afternoon with a risk of more persistent showers across southern England, Wales and the south of Ireland. Sleet and snow on hills. Fewer showers further north although again any that do occur could be heavy. Highs at 6 to 9C.

Good Friday 30/3/18 Low pressure remains to the south of the UK through Friday. Bands of showery rain track north to be followed by sunny spells but with heavy and thundery showers. Eastern coasts of Scotland seeing cloud and some outbreaks of drizzle and rain, some snow on the highest Scottish hills. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, 12C in southern England.

Saturday 31/3/18 Low pressure is expected to be to the south of the country through Saturday. This brings some cloud and rain across Ireland, Wales and southern England, most of it light. To the north and east it should be drier with broken cloud and a few bright spells, the best in western Scotland and northwest England. Highs at 7 to 12C.

Easter Sunday 1/4/18 Low pressure begins to return north through Easter Sunday. This brings wind and heavy periods of rain with it through Ireland, Wales and central and southern England. The rain heavy at times in the west. Further cloud and some showery rain in Scotland, but drier in northeast England. Highs at 5 to 12C.

Holiday Monday 2/4/18 Indications are for an unsettled day on Holiday Monday. Periods of rain, heavy at times through many areas. A risk of snow on Scottish hills. It is likely to be windy too. Detail is tricky to pin down right now and so confidence is low. Highs at 6C in northern Scotland, 12C in southern England. Tuesday 3/4/18 Low pressure remains in control on Tuesday. This brings further spells of unsettled weather with rain or showers. Milder in the south at 13C but staying cool in Scotland at 5C with some snow on hills here.
