Mesoscale Discussion 1386
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0701 PM CDT Fri Jul 05 2019
Areas affected...central/eastern Colorado
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 492...
Valid 060001Z - 060130Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 492
continues.
SUMMARY...Isolated to widely scattered severe thunderstorms remain
possible across the watch area this evening.
DISCUSSION...Severe thunderstorms across the watch area at 2355Z
were primarily focused along the Palmer Divide, with large hail as
the dominant threat. Through early evening, additional storm
development is expected, mostly along and east of the Front Range
between Denver and Colorado Springs, where low-level upslope flow
appears strongest. Elsewhere across the watch area, storm coverage
should remain rather isolated. Latest KFTG VAD and objective
analysis reveals 45-50 kts of deep-layer shear, and combined with
moderate surface-based instability will result in a continued
favorable environment for supercells as storms move east this
evening.
