Mesoscale Discussion 1054 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0743 PM CDT Mon Jun 29 2020 Areas affected...Northern High Plains Concerning...Tornado Watch 318... Valid 300043Z - 300245Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 318 continues. SUMMARY...Scattered severe storms will continue this evening across the northern High Plains. DISCUSSION...Convection continues to increase across the northern High Plains this evening, primarily along a corridor from near the Black Hills into western ND. Conditions across western ND remain apparently favorable for tornadic supercells with strong shear/buoyancy. Latest satellite imagery suggests favorable venting aloft as anvils across western ND are expanding significantly, indicative of strong updrafts. One long-lived supercell over McKenzie County ND is beginning to surge east where it will soon merge with several robust updrafts. This may ultimately evolve into a larger complex of storms that should eventually track northeast toward the international border. Farther south, numerous discrete updrafts are spreading north across the Black Hills region. Western/northern periphery of the higher terrain appear a bit more favorable for potential tornado development given the stronger low-level shear. Otherwise, large hail remains likely with the strongest convection as it spreads north-northeast. ..Darrow.. 06/30/2020 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
