Mesoscale Discussion 1055
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0942 PM CDT Mon Jun 29 2020
Areas affected...Western Dakotas
Concerning...Tornado Watch 318...
Valid 300242Z - 300445Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 318 continues.
SUMMARY...Severe threat is focusing mainly across the western
Dakotas.
DISCUSSION...Earlier supercells that formed over eastern MT/western
ND have merged and grown upscale into a squall line over western ND.
Latest radar data suggests the leading bow-type structure over
Montrail County is moving northeast at 25kt and will likely exit the
watch in a little over 1hr. Given the evolution into a linear MCS,
it appears gusty winds will be the most common threat along the
leading edge of this convection. Even so, some hail threat remains
with embedded supercell structures. Watch will likely need to be
extended downstream to include the northeastern-most counties of BIS
CWA.
