Valid 121200Z - 131200Z

...Synopsis...
A Pacific trough will move in across the northwestern US increasing
westerly flow aloft and flattening a ridge centered over much of the
Southwest. Increasingly gusty winds and dry surface conditions are
expected to support Elevated fire weather conditions through much of
the western US. Across the eastern US, mid-level troughing is
forecast to remain in places supporting widespread shower and
thunderstorm potential, limiting overall fire weather conditions.

...Intermountain West/ Snake River Valley...
Height falls from the Pacific trough are expected to overspread the
area early in the day suppressing the ridge of high pressure.
Westerly flow aloft will increase in magnitude helping to bolster
gusty surface winds to around 15-25 mph. With surface RH of 10 to
15% expected, widespread Elevated and locally critical fire weather
conditions appear likely.

...Northern Great Basin...
Gusty surface winds of 15-20 mph are expected to develop in
proximity to a slow moving frontal boundary moving into the northern
Great Basin. Increasing flow aloft will also support an increase in
boundary-layer flow during the afternoon hours. Dry surface
conditions are expected with RH around 10 to 15%. Elevated fire
weather conditions appear likely with fuels receptive to fire
spread.

...Dry Thunder eastern Utah into western Colorado...
Mid-level moisture under and on the periphery of the retreating
ridge will support thunderstorm development along the higher terrain
in the afternoon and evening hours. Model soundings show sufficient
buoyancy atop a deep and well-mixed boundary layer to support
several dry thunderstorms, particularly across eastern Utah. Fuels
are quite dry and lightning activity is expected to be widespread
enough to warrant an Isolated Dry Thunder area.
