NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...Northeast NM...OK/TX Panhandle Region

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 377...

Valid 160312Z - 160515Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 377
continues.

SUMMARY...Gusty winds and marginally severe hail will accompany
convection across portions of the southern High Plains the next
several hours.

DISCUSSION...Convection that developed off the higher terrain of NM
and southern CO has progressed about 100 miles downstream where some
organization is currently observed. MCS has evolved along the NM/TX
border with the leading squall line advancing northeast at roughly
20 kt. This activity has struggled to produce more than isolated
severe wind gusts over the last few hours, possibly due to outflow
racing up to 15 miles ahead of the precip shield. Even so,
strengthening LLJ across the TX South Plains should allow this
activity to begin turning more east along the instability axis,
characterized by MLCAPE of 1500-2000 J/kg. Gusty winds remain the
primary threat.
