Week ahead: Fair start to the week - Unsettled later, Jul 28 - 11:16

Sunny spells, warmest in southeast England A ridge of high pressure will extend across the southern half of the country early in the week, bringing fine conditions for a few days. Pleaseantly warm, but no heatwave. Some rain or showers still likely toward the north, and gradually things will turn more unsettled for all later in the week. Monday 20/07/20 High pressure lies to the southwest, whilst a fresh west to northwesterly breeze affects much of Britain. Broken cloud and sunny spells, best across southern and eastern England. A scattering of showers in the west and northwest in the morning, these transferring eastwards to affect northeast England and eastern Scotland into the afternoon, locally heavy. Top temperatures 16 to 22C, warmest southeast.

Tuesday 21/07/20 High pressure extends across southern areas, with dry and pleasantly warm conditions for England, Wales and much of Ireland. Sunny spells and well broken cloud. Light winds and coastal sea breezes. Cloudier for Scotland and Northern Ireland with a risk of a little rain or drizzle for western coasts. Local showers may form in eastern Scotland by afternoon. Highs 17 to 23C, warmest south.

Wednesday 22/07/20 A weak front spreads cloud and outbreaks of rain through Scotland, mostly affecting the northwest. Elsewhere it should be dry with increasing cloud, but some bright or sunny spells too. The best of the sunshine in the south. A increasing risk of some drizzle over the western and southern coasts of Ireland. Warm for many with highs at 24C in southern England, 14C in northern Scotland.

Thursday 23/07/20 Drizzle in northern and western Scotland as well as western Ireland. A few spots of drizzle affecting the hills of northern England and Wales too. Dry in the rest of England, Wales, eastern Ireland and eastern Scotland, away from the mistier western coasts. Plenty of cloud for all. Highs at a muggy 17 to 23C. Friday 24/07/20 Lower pressure brings rain to Scotland and Ireland, this reaching western parts of Wales and England too. Perhaps drier in the east and south, some showery rain here later. Tops at 23C in southeast England, 14C in western Scotland. Saturday 25/07/20 Fairly unsettled with areas of rain or showers across the British Isles, some heavy and frequent rain in places. Some drier and brighter spells following from the west. Highs 14 to 21C.
