Week ahead: Warming up again - Some heavy rain, Jul 30 - 10:16

Spells of rain early next week Following a brief burst of heat late this week, things will cool off again over the weekend, and showers will spread from the west. A series of complex weather systems moving in from the Atlantic early in the week bring a risk of heavy rain at times, then as pressure builds, drier and warmer weather returns for many. For the weather for the next few days click here

Sunday 02/08/20 A westerly airflow across Britain and Ireland will see a scattering of showers spread eastwards during the day - these most frequent in western areas in the morning, whilst by afternoon, some heavy ones are possible in east & northeastern regions, locally thundery in eastern Scotland. Drier overall in the south and southeast of England with sunny spells. Rain returns to the southwest later and into the night. Highs 17 to 23C.

Monday 03/08/20 A tangle of fronts are expected to drift in from the southwest, bringing a swathe of rain across England and Wales with some sustained heavy bursts. Precise detail and the northward extent of this rain is uncertain. Northern Britain may well escape largely dry with scattered showers, although some heavy or thundery bursts possible toward the northeast later. Winds mostly light. Highs 16 to 21C.

Tuesday 04/08/20 A brief ridge of high pressure sees a window of dry weather, before further fronts move in from the Atlantic. Rain developing across Ireland is expected to spread to western Britain into the afternoon, heaviest rain focused on Wales. Rain becomes more widespread into central and northern England later, although the southeast may see very little. Southwesterly winds strengthening. Highs 16 to 23C.

Wednesday 05/08/20 A fairly unsettled day is likely as low pressure and fronts pass eastwards. Heavy rain for a time, followed by clusters of showers, some heavy and thundery in places. Precise detail uncertain. Brisk west to southwesterly winds. Temperatures 16 to 24C, warmest in the southeast where quite humid. Thursday 06/08/20 A legacy of showers is likely, but these becoming sparse as pressure begins to build. Most rain focused north and west. Drier south and east, where temperatures will rise again and feeling humid. Reaching 25 to 28C in central, south and eastern Britain; cooler in the northwest at 17 to 20C. Friday 07/08/20 Indications favour high pressure to the south and east, with a plume of warm air across central and eastern Britain, whilst remnants of fronts may bring pulses of rain and local thundery showers to the west and north. Temperatures may climb to 30C in the south and east.
