Mesoscale Discussion 1588
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1100 PM CDT Wed Aug 26 2020
Areas affected...much of Louisiana...far eastern Texas
Concerning...Tornado Watch 453...
Valid 270400Z - 270600Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 453 continues.
SUMMARY...The threat for tornadoes is currently highest across
south-central into southwestern Louisiana.
DISCUSSION...Multiple bands of strong convection have developed
north and east of the center, and brief tornadoes will be possible
with the stronger cells in these bands.
The Lake Charles radar showed several impressive inbound velocities
associated with fast-moving supercells within the northern band
between 02-03Z, with several CC minimums noted. While several of
these cells have weakened as they approached the latitude of the
eye, other cells continue to regenerate to the east with notable
cells now over Vermillion Parish around 04Z.
Using a storm motion of 140/60 and putting this into the LCH
VWP-derived hodograph yields extreme 0-1 SRH of over 1100 m2/s2.
This is resulting in an environment favorable for fast-moving
storms, with brief but potentially damaging tornadoes.
