Week ahead: Rain at times - Windy, Aug 18 - 09:16

Rain, wind and humidity this week before a ridge comes about at the weekend then more rain at times next week. Ex-tropical storm Kyle will bring rain, unusually high winds for the time of year and humidity this week. A brief drier weather slot on Sunday is forecast before more mixed conditions next week.

For the weather for the next few days click here Friday 21/08/20 Low pressure remains close to Ireland on Friday allowing for a brisk southwesterly wind. Heavy showers or longer spells of rain affecting much of Scotland and Ireland during the day. The showers will be less frequent across England and Wales, however, further north and west still expect some heavier showers to blow through. Maximum temperatures at 24C in the southeast of England and 15C in northern Scotland.

Saturday 22/08/20 The area of low pressure passes to the north of Scotland on Saturday. This brings a breezy day once again to many across the British Isles along with heavy showers in the north and west and the risk of some more prolonged spells of rain here. The further south and east expect drier and brighter conditions although there will still be some blustery showers passing through for many but mainly affecting western coasts and hills. Highs at 14C in northern Scotland, 23C in southern England.

Sunday 23/08/20 A weak and brief ridge of high pressure will build over the country on Sunday. This will allow for a generally brighter day for many but with a few scattered showers about too. However, Ireland will see cloud soon thicken with spells of rain moving in from the west in the afternon. Cooler still for all with max temperatures in the south at 22C and in the north at 13C.

Monday 24/08/20 Rain will spread eastwards across Ireland and northern Ireland and continue across the rest of the UK through Monday. The heaviest of rainfall, with some possible thunder, is expected across Scotland, northwest England and Wales. The southeast of England will see the driest conditions for longest before rain moves in at the end of the day. Another cooler day for all with max temperatures in the south at 20C and in the north of Scotland at 13C.

Tuesday 25/08/20 A mixed day is expected on Tuesday. There will be sunny spells and showers affecting many areas, these falling as longer spells of rain across Wales and central areas of England. Becoming brighter over Ireland, southwest England and western Wales later. Staying chilly in the north due to a northerly wind with highs here at 12C and in the south 21C. Wednesday 26/08/20 Another mixed day with sunny spells and showers across the northern half of the country. Staying cooler in the north too where a northerly wind still blows through. Turning cloudy across southern Ireland, Wales and central and southern England as rain spreads in from the west. High temperatures range from 13 to 22C.
