Week ahead: Colder and unsettled - Sunny, chilly weekend, Sep 22 - 09:22

Turning colder, becoming more unsettled, but then sunnier and drier at the weekend Unsettled weather to close this week with rain and showers as well as stronger winds. Turning colder into the weekend with the winds becoming more northerly. Sunny spells and showers, most in the east, although turning drier from the west. Clearer skies overnight will allow for a touch of ground frost in places. early next week appears to be starting dry too, although turning a little milder for a time. Friday 25/09/20 Low pressure is in the North Sea on Friday with the winds becoming a brisk north to northwesterly, strongest in the east. Showers ease over Ireland and western parts of the UK early on to leave a dry and mostly fine day here. Staying cloudier to the east with showers affecting eastern coasts and the risk of some more persistent rain in east Alia and the far southeast. Strong winds, possibly gales, affect eastern parts of England too. High temperatures at a chilly 10 to 14C.

Saturday 26/09/20 High pressure over the British Isles brings a chilly but mostly dry and fine start to the weekend. Through the day high pressure is squeezed east as low pressure brings increasing cloud over Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and far western parts of England with patchy, light outbreaks of rain for southern Ireland as well as far southwestern parts England. Staying dry for much of England with the best of the sun over central and eastern areas. A few showers may affect northeastern coasts of England. Highs at 9 to 14C.

Sunday 27/09/20 A ridge of high pressure remains over the UK and Ireland on Sunday. This should bring a fair day for many. Eastern coasts are still troubled by the northerly wind which will be giving a few showers. Dry and sunny for most after a cool start. Broken cloud in Ireland with some sunny spells here. A cold day at 9 to 14C Monday 28/09/20 A slack pressure flow over the country with a weak ridge of high pressure affecting all areas. The day starts chilly again with some mist or fog patches. These clearing quickly to leave lots of sunshine and dry weather. Broken cloud again in Ireland with the risk of a few showers. Highs at 13 to 17C. Tuesday 29/09/20 A weak front passes east and south on Tuesday. This brings showery outbreaks of rain, mostly in central and southern areas. Brighter weather in Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as the far south of England. Highs at a milder 19C in the far south of England, 13 to 16C. Wednesday 30/09/20 A ridge of high pressure extends over the far south of Ireland, Wales and southern England bringing sunny spells and dry conditions. More cloud over western coasts and hills. More persistent rain passing through Scotland and Northern Ireland, some of it heavy. Highs at 13 to 19C.
