Week ahead: Staying cool - Becoming drier, Oct 10 - 09:54

Showers east and south Low pressure will drift south across Britain at the start of the week, pulling in a cool northeasterly wind and showery rain through midweek. High pressure builds from the north, and many places may then become dry for several days. Some overnight frost and fog patches likely.

For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 13/10/20 Low pressure centred toward the southeast produces a chilly northeasterly wind across much of Britain. Areas of rain and showers pivoting slowly across much of England and Wales, some persistent rain and grey skies. Brighter conditions developing in the far north of England. A few showers may affect eastern Scotland, but further west across the Highlands it will be dry with sunshine as pressure builds here. Mainly dry for Northern Ireland. Highs 9 to 12C.

Wednesday 14/10/20 A northeasterly wind continues to affect central and southern regions, maintaining a chilly feel. Lighter winds further north. Clusters of showers for eastern England, spreading across the Midlands and southeastern counties at times. Drier for Wales and the southwest. Scattered showers for northeast England and eastern Scotland. Much of Scotland, northwest England and Ireland will be dry with sunny spells. A cold start in these areas with rural frost. Highs 9 to 13C.

Thursday 15/10/20 High pressure to the north is likely to drift southwards across Britain, bringing a dry day to many places with sunny spells and mostly light winds. A few scattered showers around coasts in the east and south of Britain. A brisk east to northeast wind possible for Channel coasts. Starting chilly with a touch of frost for many rural areas, and some local fog patches. Highs 10 to 14C.

Friday 16/10/20 A slack pressure pattern is likely to prevail, with mainly dry conditions. Early fog patches clearing to leave sunshine and well broken cloud. Isolated showers near some coasts. Mostly light winds, although a brisk easterly may persist near southern coasts. A risk of frost at dawn, mainly northern areas. Highs 10 to 14C. Saturday 17/10/20 Some uncertainty, but high pressure is likely to stay to the north, whilst low pressure is to the south. A risk of some rain or showers in southwest England, but many places likely dry. Sunshine probably best in sheltered areas in the northwest. Highs 10 to 15C. Sunday 18/10/20 Confidence of detail remains low, although indications favour an easterly pattern continuing. Greatest risk of rain is toward the far south, but many places may well stay dry. Highs 10 to 15C.
