Week ahead: Flooding in west - Better next week, Dec 02 - 10:43

Risk of flooding, very windy, but a little better next week Staying mild over the coming days for most of the UK and Ireland. Low pressure systems will be driving fronts eastwards bringing rain and strong winds. Western parts of Wales and western England may well see some flooding and there is a risk that the wind on Saturday may cause some minor damage. Next week stays mixed but perhaps not as unsettled as this week.

For the weather for the next few days click here Saturday 5/12/15 Low pressure and a strong southwest wind bring wet and windy weather to many parts of the UK and Ireland during Saturday. Severe gales for England and Wales with heavy periods of rain in western areas. Lighter rain in central and eastern parts, although remaining windy here. Flooding in the west. Brighter for much of Sotland and perhaps the far north of Ireland, but showers on western and north coasts and hills here. Drier for eastern Scotland with sunny spells in the northeast. Highs at 12C in the far south, more generally 7 to 9C.

Sunday 6/12/15 Fronts brings further rain across England and Wales on Saturday night into Sunday, heightening the flood risk in Wales and parts of western England. The rain may not clear southern and southeastern England all day. Brighter for northern England and Scotland, as well as Ireland and the north and west of Wales. Showers across northern and western Scotland, some of these heavy. Highs at 6 to 9C.

Monday 7/12/15 It may still be raining on Monday morning in southeast England as a front reluctantly clears eastwards. Low pressure northwest of Scotland drives a further front eastwards into much of Scotland and Ireland through the day. Drier elsewhere with some sunny spells for most, but some showery rain arriving here later. Highs at 5 to 12C.

Tuesday 8/12/15 Low pressure to the north of the country on Tuesday with high pressure to the south. Showers and outbreaks of rain in more northern and western parts, with most areas tending to be rather cloudy. However, a few brighter spells in the east. Tops at 5 to 12C. Wednesday 9/12/15 High pressure builds south of the country through Wednesday. A ridge extends north bringing fair weather to most. Cloud and some rain could affect the north of Scotland however. Highs at 6 to 12C. Thursday 10/12/15 High pressure to the southeast on Thursday with low pressure to the west. Fronts will be pushed northeast through the country taking some rain with them, mostly affecting western Scotland and Ireland. Tending to be drier to the east and south. Mild for all. Highs at 6 to 14C.
