Saturday 30/01/16 A slow moving front is likely to produce persistent rain across southern Britain, which may become patchy for a time, then turn heavier again later from the south-west. Drier and brighter in north-east England. A chilly and showery day for north-western Britain & Ireland, and over Highland Scotland will give frequent snow or hail, particularly in west. Blustery westerly winds, gales around some coasts & hills. Highs 6C north, to 10C south.
Sunday 31/01/16 A warm front advances slowly back northwards from the south-west. Risk of prolonged rainfall over the hills of Wales, giving concerns for flooding. Rain or drizzle spreads north & eastwards, although some uncertainty about its northern extent. Scotland may remain chilly at 5 or 6C with a few wintry showers. Generally mild across the Midlands and south, although dull and windy. Highs rising toward 12 or 13C.
Monday 01/02/16 Low pressure is expected to be positioned north of Britain. Strong westerly winds bring persistent rain to the north-west, particularly western Scotland. Patchy rain across Wales and Ireland. Gales around coasts and hills, particularly north & west, but some strong gusts possible to the east of the Pennines. Mainly dry across east & south-eastern Britain, perhaps a little sun, and fairly mild. Highs 6 to 11C.
Tuesday 02/02/16 A west to north-westerly pattern brings cooler air across northern Britain. Areas of showery rain, may merge for a few hours in the north-west. Sleet or snow on the hills, falling to increasingly low levels in Scotland. Sunny spells across the Midlands and south, and fairly mild. Temperatures 5 to 7C in the north, to 10C in southern England. Wednesday 03/02/16 A cooler day with a north-westerly flow across the country. Showery in northern & western areas, risk of snow falling to low levels, giving accumulations over hills. Drier and brighter toward the south & east. Highs 4C north, to 7 or 8C south. Thursday 04/02/16 Pressure may build briefly from the west, and clearing skies overnight may lead to a frosty start. Some sunshine, but fronts may return from the west, with thickening cloud and risk of rain developing. Cool, highs 4 to 8C.
