Week ahead: Mostly unsettled - Becoming hot, humid, Aug 20 - 08:56

Best in the south Overall low pressure areas will dominate the weather for much of this week. A deep low clears to the north east as another low drifts up from the south that could bring an area of heavy, thundery rain into Britain mid week. Temperatures are forecast to soar this week as it becomes quite hot and moiré humid. High pressure may turn it more settled by the weekend. For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 23/08/16 Today temperatures are on the rise as it becomes very warm in the south. Light rain in the north fades to a few showers. Fine and dry in the south with sunny spells. A dry evening and night to come across much of the country. Expect high temperatures of 16 to 28C.

Wednesday 24/08/16 Very warm to hot with lots of sunshine expected across the United Kingdom. Mainly dry for most places with just a few showers possible across central parts of England. Overnight there is a risk of thundery rain moving up into southern England. Highs of 18 to 30C.

Thursday 25/08/16 It continues hot and more humid with the threat of heavy showers and thunderstorms tracking northward, perhaps East Anglia and the south east stays dry. Local torrential downpours are possible with a risk of flash flooding. This thundery rain moves east in the night. Highs of 16 to 30C.

Friday 26/08/16 The day starts dull and misty with thundery rain across eastern England clearing by afternoon as it becomes fresher. More sunshine develops across the country. Highs of 18 to 23C.

Saturday 27/08/16 It may turn quite warm again on Saturday. A front may bring in some rain and drizzle to the north and the west - fair and dry in the east. Highs of 20 to 26C. Sunday 28/08/16 High pressure may give another fine, very warm day to most parts of Britain with patchy mist and low cloud dispersing to sunny spells. A weak front may give drizzly rain to Northern Ireland and northern Scotland. Low confidence. Highs of 20 to 26C.
