Week ahead: Much milder - Windy north, Dec 05 - 09:11

Turning much milder but with plenty of cloud, windy in the north A change in the weather this week as milder air streams across the country. This will be producing plenty of low cloud, drizzle and hill fog as it arrives, but some brighter spells in the east too. It may be windy at times, especially in Scotland where there is a risk of gales. A little cooler for the weekend.

For the weather for the next few days click here Thursday 8/12/16 The mild southwesterly flow continues through Thursday. A front will be affecting eastern parts of England at first bringing some showery rain. This clears with brighter skies following from the west. Western coasts and hills may again be troubled by some low cloud and fog, although overall it should be dry. Very mild again with tops at 10 to 14C.

Friday 9/12/16 A ridge of high pressure builds across France today with low pressure west of Scotland. This is going to be bringing a breezy and damp day to Ireland and western Scotland with periods of rain. Elsewhere broken cloud and mostly dry but always the risk of low cloud and drizzle affecting hills, mostly in the west. A few brighter spells in the east of England. Highs at a very mild 10 to 15C.

Saturday 10/12/16 A weak front passing east on Saturday bringing some showery spots of rain through central and eastern areas. This could become slow moving over the southeast in the afternoon. Brighter skies follows, but there is a threat of some gales in Scotland and also heavy showers. These could turn wintry on hills. Highs at 6C in central Scotland, 12C in southern England.

Sunday 11/12/16 The front eventually clears from southeast England early Sunday taking showery rain with it. Most areas are then likely to become fair with sunny spells, although still a risk of some showers in Scotland where it will be windier too. Thicker cloud and rain may affect Ireland later. Highs at 7 to 10C so feeling cooler for all.

Monday 12/12/16 Lower confidence in the forecast from Monday onwards. A weak front may bring some outbreaks of rain to the west and south. other areas are likely to be drier but with the risk of some mist and fog. Highs at 8 to 11C. Tuesday 13/12/16 Probably a mostly dry day on Tuesday across much of central and eastern England. More cloud affecting western areas with the risk of some drizzle here, as well as coastal fog. Highs at 7 to 10C.
