Week ahead: Often dry south & east - Rain mostly north-west, Sep 29 - 09:34

Cool start to the week, then milder High pressure will influence southern Britain and Ireland for much of the week ahead, but frontal systems will come in from the west to bring cloud, rain and brisk winds at times to the north & north-west. A cool northwesterly flow early in the week, but milder southwesterlies should return through midweek. For the weather for the next few days click here

Tuesday 02/10/18 Fronts extend west to east across the country. A cloudy day with occasional rain, focused across Wales, whilst patchy rain or local showery bursts may pass east across the Midlands. Very little if any rain toward the south & south-east. Best of any sunshine toward the north-east. Brief showers in western Scotland. A cool westerly breeze. Highs 15 to 17C in the far south, but just 12 to 15C for many.

Wednesday 03/10/18 A west to southwesterly pattern brings milder air across the country. High pressure builds in the south. Fronts toward the north-west will produce a lot of cloud for Scotland, northern England and Ireland. Occasional rain for western coasts and hills. Dry and bright for central & south & eastern England & Wales. Strongest breeze toward the north-west. Highs 12 to 19C, warmest in the east.

Thursday 04/10/18 A cold front is expected to sink southwards across northern Britain, with a little rain in places, but amounting to very little. Wettest toward north-west Scotland, but most likely staying dry for central and southern areas of Britain. Breezy, warmest south, cooler north. Highs 11 to 19C.

Friday 05/10/18 Low confidence heading toward the weekend: Probably feeling fresher overall, but a bright day with scattered showers mostly toward the north-west. Many places staying dry. High pressure resides toward the south. Highs 11 to 17C. Saturday 06/10/18 Fronts may come back in from the Atlantic toward the weekend, bringing rain to Ireland, then west & north-western Britain, although timing uncertain. Milder air moves back across the south. Highs 12 to 18C. Sunday 06/10/18 A similar theme of rain threatening the west & north of the British Isles, whilst the south & east should remain dry and fairly warm. Highs 12 to 18C.
