A band of heavy, thundery rain will sweep northward across the UK and Ireland today. Ahead of this will be scattered showers over Scotland. Brighter conditions will follow behind to the south. Good morning, A mild start to the day, particularly in the south, with temperatures in the low teens for some overnight. A band of rain will extend across Ireland, south Wales and the West Country first thing. Ahead of this over northwest Ireland and Wales there will be some scattered showers. Much of England and Scotland will be dry with a mixture of broken cloud and sunny spells.

Through the morning scattered showers will spread northward into northern England and across Scotland while a pulse of, potentially, very heavy, thundery rain will move into the West Country and southern Wales.

By the afternoon this area of very heavy rain will reach much of Wales and extend across the Midlands and much of Ireland too. Behind the rain, to the south, it should be bright with just a few scattered showers. High temperatures at just 8 to 12C in the far northeast and southwest; widely reaching 14 to 19C elsewhere.

Through the evening the heaviest rain will reach Northern Ireland and southern parts of Scotland. Showers will continue for northeastern parts of Scotland and southwestern parts of England and Wales.

Have a good day! Claire
