Mesoscale Discussion 0844
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0103 AM CDT Tue May 28 2019
Areas affected...Southeast Ohio...Northwest West Virginia
Concerning...Tornado Watch 269...
Valid 280603Z - 280800Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 269 continues.
SUMMARY...A tornado threat will likely continue for a few more hours
across parts of southeast Ohio and northwestern West Virginia. A
local extension in area may be needed if the storms move toward the
edge of WW 269.
DISCUSSION...A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms is ongoing
across southeast Ohio, located along a quasi-stationary front
extending from northwest to southeast across Ohio. Although
instability is generally weak near the boundary, kinematic profiles
continue to be impressive. The WSR-88D VWP at Charleston, WV shows a
looped hodograph with 0-3 km storm relative helicity near 500 m2/s2.
This will continue to support supercell development during the early
overnight period. Supercells should be accompanied by a tornado
threat. Wind damage will also be likely with the stronger cells. The
overall severe threat should become more isolated with time.
