Week ahead: Sunny spells - Scattered showers, May 19 - 08:56

A mixed week of weather ahead with sunny spells and scattered showers at times A period of unsettled weather coming up for the UK and Ireland. Although higher pressure does try to build at times, low pressure stays nearby which brings us a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers, some of which will be thundery at times. Temperatures close to average for the time of year.

For the weather for the next few days click here Wednesday 22/05/19 A slack pressure gradient over the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. This brings a mixture of sunny spells and showers which will predominantly affect northeastern Scotland. A low pressure system brings building cloud over Ireland, Wales and southwestern parts of England, followed later in the evening by rain. A drier and brighter day for southwestern Scotland and the north of England. Highs at 14 to 20C for most. Just 11 to 12C in the northwest of Scotland.

Thursday 23/05/19 Low pressure to the southwest and northeast squeezes high pressure away to the south. A cloudy day for most with patchy rain and showers affecting much of England, Ireland and Wales. Brighter over Scotland. Highs at 15 to 19C for most. Just 12 or 13C in the northwest of Scotland while some favoured spots in England could see 20 or 21C.

Friday 24/05/19 Low pressure moves to the east on Friday while high pressure starts to build from the southwest. A mostly bright start to the day with some mist or fog patches around. Scattered showers developing through the afternoon for parts of England, Ireland and Wales. Highs widely at 16 to 18C; 19 to 20C is possible in the southeast while the far northwest will reach just 11 or 12C.

Saturday 25/05/19 Saturday sees low pressure to the west sending fronts across Ireland and the southwestern UK. A bright start to the day but patchy rain moving across Ireland, Wales, southwestern Scotland and southern and central parts of England through the afternoon and evening. High temperatures widely at 13 to 19C, 20 to 22C in southeastern England.

Sunday 26/05/19 Sunday sees low pressure to the northwest bringing a mostly cloudy day with showers and outbreaks of rain for most parts of the UK and Ireland. High temperatures at 11 to 14C in western Scotland and the northwest of England, more widely 15 to 22C. Monday 27/05/19 A westerly air flow may develop on Monday bringing a mixture of good spells of sunshines and showers. Wetter in the west, drier and brighter in the east. High temperatures at 13 to 18C.
