Morning Call: Windy, wet north - Drier south, Jul 28 - 05:44

Wet and very windy in the north. Some showers elsewhere but turning largely dry. A wet and windy morning across northern Scotland and the Northern Isles with strong to near gale force northwesterly winds. The rest of Scotland will see some variable cloud and showers, these mainly in the west. Best of any sunny spells in the south. It will be dry elsewhere across the UK initially though showers do develop across mainly western and northern areas. This afternoon will see rain and strong winds linger across the far north and Northern Isles. Elsewhere, showers will become more widespread but as a ridge builds in from the southwest the showers should largely and gradually die out later on and into the evening leaving a largely dry end to the day across the UK and Ireland. The rain in the far north will gradually become lighter and more patchy overnight. Staying breezy here however. Some showers affecting northern and western coasts of Scotland, Ireland and Wales throughout the night but dry with clear spells for most places. Cloud will thicken across southwestern parts of Ireland through the early hours. Breezy in the east but winds lighter in the west.
