Mesoscale Discussion 1150 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1151 PM CDT Wed Jul 08 2020 Areas affected...southeast NE...northeast KS Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 346... Valid 090451Z - 090615Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 346 continues. SUMMARY...Severe squall line will continue east-southeast. Gusts 60-75 mph are possible. DISCUSSION...Radar mosaic shows a mature bowing squall line moving east-southeast at 44 kt over central NE moving into southeast NE and into northern KS as of 1145pm CDT. The Grand Island ASOS recently measured a 62-kt gust at 1134pm. Despite gradual near-surface cooling, upper 60s F dewpoints reside across southeast NE and northeast KS. As a result, moderate instability will continue to support the severe squall line into far southeast NE/northeast KS. A watch extension-in-area or an additional severe thunderstorm watch may be considered (depending on trends over the next few hours) to the southeast of severe watch 346 across northeast KS, including the greater Kansas City metro. ..Smith.. 07/09/2020 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
