Areas affected...south Texas

Concerning...Tornado Watch 402...

Valid 261145Z - 261315Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 402 continues.

SUMMARY...The tornado threat across far south Texas will continue
through the morning and into the early afternoon as Tropical Storm
Hannah slowly moves into northern Mexico. A new tornado watch will
likely be needed later this morning.

DISCUSSION...The low-level wind field remains favorable for
tornadoes across far south Texas as Tropical Storm Hanna continues
to move into northern Mexico.

In the short term the greatest tornado threat should exist across
deep south Texas. This area is on the northern edge of a more
persistent band of stronger convection, located across far northeast
Mexico, associated with Hanna. Morning radar imagery from
Brownsville continues to show numerous broad, transient area of
low-level rotation embedded within this convective band.
Additionally, recent radar trends indicate isolated, transient
mini-supercells east of Brownsville moving west-northwest toward the
Texas coast. The overall low-level kinematic environment should
remain favorable for brief tornadoes into the afternoon.

Given this continued risk, a new tornado watch will likely be needed
prior to the expiration of Tornado Watch #402, which is scheduled to
expire at 9AM CDT. This new tornado watch will likely last into at
least the early afternoon.
