Week ahead: Drier & warmer weekend - Mixed start to the week, Jul 06 - 08:28

A mixed week with periods of rain for many, drier and warmer at the weekend An mixed start to the week with low pressure bringing outbreaks of rain, with may become more persistent. Some uncertainty in exactly where and how much rain falls. By the end of the week we are more confident that high pressure will start to build bringing drier conditions through the weekend and into the very early stages of next week. Getting warmer too.

For the weather for the next few days click here Thursday 9/7/20 An area of low pressure is going to be moving across Ireland and Great Britain during Thursday. This brings cloud and periods of rain as well as strong winds. The heaviest of the rain is likely to be through Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England as well as western parts of Wales. Perhaps drier in the far south of England with sunny spells, although some rain in the southwest. Tending to turn brighter and more showers, but still windy in Ireland. Highs at a chilly 9C in central Scotland, but warmer in souther areas, perhaps to 24C in southeast England in any sunshine.

Friday 10/7/20 Low pressure clears into the North Sea on Friday as a ridge of high pressure builds over Ireland. There will be further showers for many and it stays breezy and cool at first. The showers tending to fade in the west where there will be more sunshine, especially in the afternoon. Highs at 14 to 19C.

Saturday 11/7/20 A ridge of high pressure building over the UK and much of England and Wales on Sunday. A front bringing some cloud, drizzle and patchy rain to the west and north of Scotland, perhaps also affecting the coasts of Northern Ireland. Much brighter with sunshine in southern Ireland, Wales, central and southern England. Lighter winds for all. Highs at 13C in northern Scotland, 20C in southeast England.

Sunday 12/7/20 An area of high pressure builds over the UK and Ireland on Sunday. This should bring plenty of dry weather but there could also be a fair amount of cloud forming. Spels of sunshine too. Tops at a warmer 17 to 23C.

Monday 13/7/20 Higher pressure to the east of the country but afecting all areas. It should be dry, but again there will be broken cloud developing. Some bright or sunny spells coming through. The risk of lower cloud and some drizzle afecting the far west of Ireland. Highs near 17 to 23C. Tuesday 14/7/20 Uncertainty in the forecast for Tuesday. There could be a weak front passing through Scotland and Ireland bringing some cloud and outbreaks of patchy rai here. Drier to the south with some bright spells. Highs at 16 to 24C
