Week ahead: Wet conditions - Drier later, Jul 25 - 08:44

A wet and generally unsettled forecast but with a potentially drier spell later in the week. Unsettled weather is expected over the coming days. Fronts will be bringing spells of rain or showers to many. Heaviest rain generally in the north and west. Next week shows signs of higher pressure building later bringing some drier days, mostly south and east.

For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 28/07/20 Rain passes eastwards overnight, some of it heavy. A dry start for much of England but showers will affect northern and western parts of the UK and Ireland. It is likely to be turning brighter and drier in Ireland and western parts of the UK through the afternoon. A breezier day and feeling cooler in the northwesterly wind. Highs at 14 to 22C.

Wednesday 29/07/20 A weak ridge of high pressure on Wednesday will give a largely dry day to many, although with low pressure close by Scotland do expect showers to develop across western parts of Scotland and Ireland. Cloud thickening later in the day across southern Ireland and southwest England before rain moves in here overnight. High temperatures around 14 to 22C again.

Thursday 30/07/20 High pressure is nudged eastwards through the day by low pressure tracking northeast. This will bring spells of patchy rain to Ireland, Wales, southwest England and Northern Ireland, before spreading into northwest England and western Scotland later. For much of England and eastern Scotland it will feel humid, be largely cloudy but should stay dry. Highs at 16 to 25C.

Friday 31/07/20 Low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east brings a warm and humid southerly flow to the UK and Ireland. Weak fronts bring light, patchy rain into the west of Ireland and far west of Scotland at times otherwise it's a mostly dry, muggy day with the best of the sun to the south and east. Thundery showers may flare up through the late afternoon and evening over southern areas. Highs of 20 to 27C. Saturday 01/08/20 An unsettled day to start the weekend as the UK sits under a trough. This will bring with outbreaks of rain for many, these locally heavy and thundery to the west. Breezy too along the northern and western coasts. Highs at a muggy 20 to 28C. Sunday 02/08/20 A slack pressure gradient over the British Isles into Sunday giving a mixed day of sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud. Showers, some heavy, may develop, especially to the northwest. Highs range from 21 to 29C.
