Mesoscale Discussion 1640
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0848 PM CDT Sat Aug 29 2020

Areas affected...southern New England

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 471...

Valid 300148Z - 300345Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 471
continues.

SUMMARY...While isolated strong wind gusts remain possible, the
severe threat is expected to wane over the next 1-2 hours. As such,
additional watches are unlikely.

DISCUSSION...The segmented line of storms persists into southern New
England, but a weakening trend has been observed. Objective analysis
shows increasing MLCIN ahead of these storms, and this should help
to limit the severe threat as the storms continue east.

The 00Z OKX and CHH soundings both show around -50 MLCIN, with
stronger values over RI and Cape Cod. Given the veering winds aloft,
marginal low-level convergence and time of day, these storms are not
expected to require any additional downstream watches.
