Week ahead: Mixed, thundery showers - Unsettled, cooler next week, Aug 15 - 08:35

Mixed with thundery showers, turning more unsettled next week Mixed weather ahead and tending to turn more unsettled next week. There will be some thundery showers around through the weekend and early next week and it will stay very warm. Low pressure brings wind and rain from the middle of next week and it will feel cooler too.

For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 18/08/20 Low pressure centred over northern England and southern Scotland on Tuesday. There will be cloud and periods of rain affecting many areas, the rain could be thundery. Just about anywhere seeing the showers into the afternoon with longer spells of rain in places. Plenty of cloud with limited bright and sunny spells. Highs at 17 to 24C.

Wednesday 19/08/20 Low pressure west of Ireland on Wednesday. This brings strong winds and rain into Ireland, reaching western Wales and western England later. More northern and eastern areas should be drier and brighter with sunny spells though a scattering of showers can't be ruled out. Highs at 17C in parts of northern Scotland, 20 to 24C for many.

Thursday 20/08/20 Low pressure remains close to Ireland on Thursday. A front passes northward over northern England and Scotland taking heavy rain with it. Behind this follows showers, these frequent and heavy in the west and south. Fewer showers in eastern areas, but still some here with the best sunshine. Breezy for many. Highs at 16C in the west, 23C in the east.

Friday 21/08/20 Low pressure passes east over the UK on Friday. This brings strong winds and lots of cloud with periods of rain and showers. Turning drier and brighter from the west later with some sunny spells developing. High temperatures range from 15 to 23C.

Saturday 22/08/20 Low pressure moves over Scandinavia putting the UK and Ireland in a cool west to northwesterly airflow. This brings a mix of sunny spells and showers. The showers will be heaviest to the north and west. Fewer showers in the east and south. Highs at 14 to 23C. Sunday 23/08/20 A cooler west to northwesterly flow persists into Sunday for the British Isles. Fewer showers than on Saturday but they will continue to affect northern and western areas. Mostly dry elsewhere with some good spells of sunshine for many. Highs of just 12 to 20C.
