Week ahead: Staying hot - Thundery, heavy showers, Aug 08 - 09:25

Hot temperatures in the south to start then lively showers becoming widespread, before a potentially more settled weekend ahead. Staying hot in the south and southeast this weekend and into next week. Through the week expect lively showers to spread northwards up the UK from the near continent, some heavy and thundery, particularly around midweek. High pressure could ridge back in come next weekend.

For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 11/8/20 A largely cloudy day across England as showery outbreaks of rain affect mainly southern and central areas initially but will become more widespread through the day. Wales and Scotland will start mostly dry although northern Scotland will see outbreaks of rain. Some sunny spells across these regions but staying rather cloudy with the risk of showers developing later on. Ireland and Northern Ireland will stay largely dry and see the best of any sunshine, particularly across far western regions. Hot still in the south and southeast with highs at 34C. Highs at 23C further north.

Wednesday 12/8/20 A particularly unsettled day in the south with showery outbreaks of rain affecting widely across England and Wales. Many showers will fall heavy and some potentially thundery. Scotland will start off mostly dry with some sunny spells but plenty of cloud about too, however, showers will also develop across the country, some heavy currently expected in the southwest. Ireland will see a largely dry and bright morning but showers will push into western and southern regions later on. Northern Ireland staying largely dry with sunny spells. Highs at 19C in the northern Scotland, 32C in southern England.

Thursday 13/8/20 A potentially lively start to Thursday with the risk of thunderstorms cracking off really anywhere over England and Wales. Models currently suggesting across central and western England and into Wales, however, pin pointing exactly where the thunderstorms will affect at this stage is tricky. Some thundery outbreaks of heavy rain could reach southern Scotland but currently many central and northern parts of the country will see mostly dry conditions with possible sunny spells. Ireland and Northern Ireland will once again receive the best of any sunshine but won't miss out on scattered showers developing quite widely. Highs at 20 to 27C.

Friday 14/8/20 The last of the thundery outbreaks of rain look to clear eastern coasts on Friday with high pressure trying to ridge on behind to allow for drier conditions across England, Wales and much of Scotland. Meanwhile, a weak front will move across Ireland, Northern Ireland and into western Scotland bringing cloudy skies mainly but the risk of some patchy light rain too. Highs at 19 to 23C.

Saturday 15/8/20 A dry start for many throughout the UK and Ireland with plenty of sunshine in the south and southeast, but cloud will soon build with showers developing mainly across the west but becoming widespread through the day. Although, the far southeast could miss out on them altogether. Highs range from 20 to 24C. Sunday 16/8/20 A largely dry day with sunny spells but also a few scattered showers about too, however, a front will sweep over northwest Ireland and northwest Scotland bringing thicker cloud and spells of rain to these parts later on. Highs range from 19 to 24C.
