Week ahead: Staying hot - Thundery, heavy showers, Aug 09 - 08:37

Hot temperatures in the south to start then lively showers becoming widespread through midweek. Staying hot in the south and southeast into next week. Through the week expect lively showers to spread northwards through the UK from the near continent, some heavy and thundery, particularly around midweek. Some uncertainty in the models as to what happens beyond then, though some indications are that conditions may stay rather mixed with sunny spells and frequent showers.

For the weather for the next few days click here Wednesday 12/08/20 A rather unsettled day across the UK and Ireland. Early thundery showers clear east from England and Scotland to leave a mixed morning with some spells of sunshine and isolated showers for many. Further thunderstorms develop later over England and Wales, these locally bringing very heavy rain. Styaing brighter elsewhere across the UK and Ireland with good spells of sunshine and isolated showers. Highs at 18C in northern Scotland, 34C in southern England.

Thursday 13/08/20 A lively start is forecast for many on Thursday with the risk of thunderstorms firing up really anywhere over England and Wales and into eastern parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as southwest Scotland. Brighter over western and central parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland with the possibility of isolated, light showers developing here. Perhaps staying dry too, but cloudy, for the northeast of Scotland. Highs at 18 to 25C.

Friday 14/08/20 Continuing mixed into Friday though models suggest that an area of thunderstorms clears to the northeast affecting northern England and much of Scotland before moving into the North Sea later. Brighter conditions for southwestern parts of the UK and for Ireland though still a slight risk of isolated showers developing here, particularly to the west. High temperatures at 17 to 22C.

Saturday 15/08/20 A dry start for many throughout the UK and Ireland with plenty of sunshine in the south and southeast, but cloud will soon build with showers developing mainly across the west but becoming widespread through the day. These could be quite heavy over the Highlands of Scotland while parts of the far southeast could miss out on them altogether. Highs range from 16 to 21C.

Sunday 16/08/20 Conditions remain mixed into Sunday with a broad trough of low pressure across the British Isles. Plenty of sunshine around, especially to the east early on, though showers tend to become heavier and more widespread into the afternoon. Highs range from 16 to 21C. Monday 17/08/20 Monday sees mixed conditions continue for the UK and Ireland with low pressure staying close by. Another day with widespread showers, these locally heavy, and some spells of sunshine. High temperatures range from 17 to 21C.
